Ukrainian authorities emphasized that they will keep working with Guatemala to develop mutual trade and industrial projects.

Guatemala City, by AGN.-Bilateral agreements for strengthening cooperation relations between both nations were established as a result of the official visit carried out by President Alejandro Giammattei to Ukraine.

The signing of these agreements on trade and tourism exchange, among others, was announced during the joint statement between the President of Guatemala, Alejandro

Giammattei, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The statement was made in Kyiv, where both presidents were with their respective delegations.

Visa Waiver

The Ukrainian President informed that among the agreements is the mutual abolition of visa requirements between the two countries.

“I am pleased to inform you that during the visit, an intergovernmental agreement on mutual abolition of visa requirements was signed,” he said. He added, “that this will contribute to the development of business and social ties between our countries and people.”

The signature of the visa-free agreement and a memorandum of cooperation between diplomatic academies was in charge of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Bucaro, and Ukraine’s, Dmitro Kuleba.

“My Guatemalan counterpart and I signed a visa-free agreement and a memorandum on cooperation between diplomatic academies. Ukraine and Guatemala enjoy excellent relations,” expressed the Ukrainian diplomat on his social networks.

Trade relations

During the bilateral meeting, the presidents discussed strengthening trade and economic relations between countries to carry out concrete projects without intermediaries.

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that they will continue working with Guatemala to develop joint business and industrial projects.

He said “that by deepening ties with Guatemala, Ukraine is opening new horizons in Latin America,”

Additionally, the two countries agreed on the possibility of purchasing agricultural products to strengthen bilateral trade.

“Guatemala confirmed its interest in buying Ukrainian agricultural products and establishing industrial relations,” said President Zelensky.

Crimea Summit

The Ukrainian President made the invitation to President Giammattei to participate in the International Crimea Summit, which will be held virtually next month.

“I invited President Alejandro Giammattei to participate in the Crimea Platform Summit, which will be held online on August 23,” he noted.

Last year, representatives from 40 countries attended the summit. The consolidation of these same nations is expected for this year’s event.

The Crimea Platform is a new consultative and coordination format started by Ukraine to increase the effectiveness of the international response to the occupation of Crimea.

In addition, the initiative aims to respond to new security challenges, prevent further human rights violations and protect victims of the occupation regime.
