Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz (AGN) – Guatemala is considered one of the best destinations 2024. The International Tourism Fair -Fitur- website recently shared some of Guatemala’s attractions and encouraged the international community to visit the country.
Fitur’s website states, “Guatemala is a country with a rich history and culture, as well as stunning natural beauty. It is an ideal destination for travelers seeking a unique and memorable experience.”
Attractions
The country is home to a cultural richness spanning more than 3,000 years of history, which is why it has a diversity of attractions that protect the astonishing beauty of Guatemala.
Guatemala has a wealth of archeological sites that tell the story of the Mayan people and their ancestors, as well as colonial cities, volcanoes, lakes, beaches, and forests.
Among the destinations to visit are:
- Tikal, Petén
- Antigua Guatemala
- Semuc Champey, Alta Verapaz
- Lake Atitlán, Sololá
- Archaeological Park Tak’alik Ab’aj
- Pacaya and Fuego volcanoes and other sites.
The Guatemalan Tourism Institute -Inguat- promotes the country nationally and internationally. The objective is to attract new visitors and investors and make tourism a sustainable development sector for the country.
Guatemala at Fitur
For the first time, Guatemala became a partner country at Fitur. In January 2023, President Alejandro Giammattei led a delegation that participated in the fair held in Spain.
The authorities explained that this event represented an outstanding opportunity for the country to showcase its strengths and high potential to position itself worldwide as one of the main tourist attractions in the Americas.
On that occasion, President Giammattei had significant meetings, including an encounter with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. During the dialogue, the kings learned about the cultural wealth of more than 3,000 years that the Guatemalans possess.
