Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- Through the initiative Viajando por Guate, the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism -Inguat- expects an economic revenue of more than USD 6.3 million.
Data from Inguat’s Market Research Department indicate that in 2022, the domestic tourism flow was 6 million trips with overnight stays and 14 million without overnight stays. With these figures, the determined economic revenue for 2022 was USD 6.1 million.
It is estimated that by 2023 there will be at least 7 million overnight trips and another 15.7 million non-stay overnight trips. All this is within the project implemented by the local tourism development institute.
Traveling through Guate
To motivate Guatemalans to engage in domestic tourism, Inguat implemented the project Viajando por Guate. The initiative promotes trips to the country’s different tourist attractions. Under this program, accessible packages are created for the population to visit the various destinations that Guatemala offers.
Viajando por Guate promotes two or three departments per month. In June, the richness of Huehuetenango and Escuintla will be highlighted. The schedule for the remaining months is as follows:
- August: Zacapa and Chimaltenango
- September: Sacatepéquez and Petén
- October: Retalhuleu and Jutiapa
- November: Chiquimula and Totonicapán
Details of scheduled activities are at www.paseoguatemala.gt, where discounts and monthly specials are listed.
Viajando por Guate is one of the great promoters of tourism attractions, history, and gastronomy to contribute to local, sustainable development. This initiative also seeks tour guides, Guatemalan companies, and entrepreneurs to promote their products and services to the population.
