Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The initiative “Viajando por Guate” aims to highlight Chimaltenango’s tourist destinations this month. The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism -Inguat- authorities presented the project at the Iximché archaeological site, where the director of Inguat invited the population to visit this destination.
These actions promote local tourism and highlight the different attractions of the department. In addition, they seek to showcase the region’s history, gastronomy, and nature. The project also contributes to the sustainable development of the area.
Chimaltenango’s tourism brand was also launched as part of this strategy to support the region’s economic sector.
Chimaltenango Tourist Destinations
The department of Chimaltenango offers some of the following options:
- Casa Xará and Molino Helvetia, Tecpán
- Matuloj Ecological Reserve, Chimaltenango
- Paseo Xejasmin, Tecpan
- Acatenango Volcano
- Iximché Archaeological Site
- Mixco Viejo
- El Nacimiento recreation center, San Pedro Yepocapa
- Taller de Ladrilleras de El Tejar, El Tejar
Initiative
Inguat created this initiative to encourage domestic tourism by promoting trips to the country’s diverse tourist attractions. This campaign creates accessible packages for local and foreign visitors to discover Guatemala’s attractions.
Viajando por Guate plans to cover most of the country’s territory by promoting two to three departments per month. This month, it highlights Zacapa and Chimaltenango. The calendar for the upcoming months is as follows:
- September: Sacatepéquez and Petén
- October: Retalhuleu and Jutiapa
- November: Chiquimula and Totonicapán
