Beca Artesano Opens New Call for Applications

The program provides conditional cash transfers to strengthen people's technical skills and artisanal production learning.

Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN– The Ministry of Social Development -Mides- launched a new call for applications for the Beca Artesano (Artisan Scholarship) program. This program aims to enhance women’s capacities and empowerment in poverty situations in both urban and rural areas.

The Ministry announced on its social media platforms that applications would be accepted from August 16 to 25. It also provided instructions to visit the departmental coordination of Mides for more information.

Additionally, interested individuals must submit a photocopy of their personal identification document -DPI- and a socioeconomic record from social programs.

The Departments

This call for applications focuses on the departments of Alta Verapaz, Retalhuleu, Santa Rosa, Petén, Jutiapa, Suchitepéquez, San Marcos, Chimaltenango, Huehuetenango, Quiché, Izabal, and Jalapa.
The Ministry of Social Development reaffirms its commitment to creating opportunities and capacities that allow Guatemalans to positively and sustainably improve their lives.

About the Program

The Beca Artesano training program is an initiative that provides Conditional Cash Transfers -CCT- to the Guatemalan population. It aims to enhance individuals’ knowledge of technical skills and artisanal product learning.
It is a training space for adults, particularly women from rural and marginalized urban areas.

The goal is to strengthen and improve their technical skills in producing and learning artisanal products.

All of this is achieved through the support of public and private institutions, as well as international cooperation, to provide training to individuals. The program also provides participants with commercial contacts to promote their products.
