Beca Artesano has benefited more than 2,000 Guatemalan women in 2023

The program assists older adults living in poverty or extreme poverty in both urban and rural areas.

Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- The Beca Artesano program (Artisan Scholarship) is promoted by the Ministry of Social Development -Mides- and has benefited 2,417 Guatemalan women in 2023.

Program Details

Beca Artesano is an initiative aimed at people of legal age, especially women in rural and marginalized urban areas who live in poverty or extreme poverty.

It provides conditional monetary transfers periodically to strengthen technical skills for learning and making artisanal products. 

The purpose is to strengthen and develop these skills through training to increase the family income.

Mides provides these courses with the support of public and private institutions of foreign cooperation. As well as facilitating commercial contacts, these companies can promote their products.

Over 13,000 beneficiaries

The Beca Artesano Program, promoted by the Ministry of Social Development -Mides-, has benefited 13,343 Guatemalan women in the three and a half years of President Alejandro Giammattei’s administration.

According to Mides, through training courses to build knowledge, skills, and abilities, women have found opportunities for their development.

The Government of Guatemala carries out various strategies to assist women. This program is accomplished by its different ministries and secretariats.
