Authorities seized 105 packages of cocaine in Puerto Quetzal

The Guatemalan Armed Forces and the PNC, through coordinated work, located a container with drugs arriving from Costa Rica.

Guatemala City, by Jenny Herrera -AGN- Authorities of the Anti-Narcotics Sub-Directorate of the Guatemalan National Civil Police -SGAIA- and the Guatemalan Armed Forces reported the discovery of 105 packages of cocaine in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.

Following a complaint received through the anti-narcotics hotline 1577, police and military law enforcement searched for a container arriving from Costa Rica at APM Terminals Port, Puerto Quetzal.

The Ministry of the Interior, on its official X account, shared, “These efforts are the product of interinstitutional work.”

Last Saturday,  authorities found a metal box containing 525 packages of the same drug. It was part of a shipment with several containers arriving from Costa Rica.

Police actions

In the area of La Parroquia, Guatemala City, police officers arrested Wilson “N,” 24 years old, an alleged member of Mara 18, who has an arrest warrant for extortion issued by a court in 2023.

Guatemalan law enforcement arrested Adán “N,” 29, who was requested by a court in Guatemala City, on charges of extortion.

The National Civil Police -PNC- captured two alleged members of Mara 18 when they were abandoning a Mazda vehicle; they found two dead bodies with their hands and feet tied.

The detainees were identified as Edgar Miguel, 25, aka Mole, and Kenet Josemar, 21, aka El Demo.

Gang member deported 

The PNC investigators from the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division -DEIC-, and the Attorney General’s Office -MP- arrested José “N” for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor, which was recorded on video.

 Wilfredo Vargas, aka El Chago, 21, who has an arrest warrant for aggravated homicide in El Salvador and who was hiding in Jutiapa, Guatemala, was captured and deported from the country. According to the PNC report, a total of 11 Salvadoran gang members have been deported from the country so far in 2024.
