Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- The Constitutional President of the Republic and the President and Vice President elect held their first meeting at the Presidential Office, marking the start of the 2023-2024 transition process.
During the meeting, President Giammattei stated that this process will develop in order and systematically.
He welcomed the elected authorities to the Presidential Palace, underscoring that his administration aims to carry out a unique, comprehensive, and orderly transition process beyond any doubt.Â
This transition process began in January of this year to enable the transfer of information to the elected authorities.
The Process
The transition process will demonstrate the country’s transformations achieved during the administration of President Alejandro Giammattei, especially the progress in social development that seeks to benefit Guatemalans.
According to the president: “From now on, the transition teams and the entire Executive Branch are available. My commitment is to transfer the government to the president-elect on January 14.â

Upon their arrival at the Presidential Office, the current and elected authorities met privately to initiate this transition process. The president-elect congratulated the systematized information procedures with a transition methodology.
President-elect ArĂ©valo stated, “I congratulate President Giammattei and his team for their efforts in the preparation of this and the proposal they have made to us today regarding the methodology of the process.”
He emphasized that his transition team will cooperate fully to conduct an orderly transition.
The Secretary General of the OAS
During this first transition meeting, a delegation from the Organization of American States -OAS- led by Secretary General Luis Almagro participated in the meeting.
During the extraordinary session of the Permanent Council of the OAS, Foreign Minister Mario BĂșcaro underscored the commitment of the President to promote a transparent transition.
