Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Guatemalan Tourism Institute -Inguat- shared the results of the 2023 August festivities. According to the data, 65,116 people from El Salvador entered the country this year as part of this annual celebration. In addition, this has resulted in an estimated revenue of USD 19.5 million.
The statistics show a 19% increase in visitors and a 20% increase in foreign exchange compared to 2022.

Inguat reports that the tourists entered the country through:

- San Cristóbal, 10,196
The places with the largest number of visitors were:
- Guatemala City, 46,912
- Antigua Guatemala, 24,813
- Retalhuleu, 20,535
- Esquipulas, 20,535
- Atitlán, 7,341
- Izabal, 4,102
- Quetzaltenango, 2,869
- Las Verapaces, 1,449
This year, there has been positive progress in strengthening the country’s tourism sector.
Tourist Assistance
During this time, Inguat assisted visitors. The Institute reports that 54,964 people were helped, with 27,353 males and 27,611 females. In addition, the official lines received 200 calls, and 200 roadside checkpoints were carried out.
About the Festivities
The August festivities are a vacation period from August 1 to 6 in the worship of the Savior of the World.
During these days, thousands of Salvadorans visit the different tourist destinations in Guatemala, making it an important season for the tourism sector. Last year, there was a high number of tourist arrivals from El Salvador.
