Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. During the weekend, the Flower Festival occurred in Antigua, Guatemala. The activities began on October 28 with exhibitions, lectures, contests, and workshops.
The event reaches its seventh edition in 2023, showcasing the most emblematic places of the colonial city, including the iconic arch and the central park.
According to local authorities in Sacatepéquez, the activities started around 9:00 am and ended at 9:00 pm daily.
This activity was founded by a group of Guatemalan entrepreneurs who love culture and art and want to highlight the country’s color. The festival included bicycle rides, stained-glass workshops, and more. This year’s festival theme is “Guatemala: Country of Eternal Spring”.
Another activity was a decorated bicycle contest with prizes of up to USD 200 for the winner. In addition, there were art and flower exhibitions and cultural activities. These activities encourage creativity, and free workshops let visitors learn something new.
Several workshops were held during the festival. These included the Framing Eternal Spring workshop and Terrarium workshop with succulents at Bosque de Antigua Cerveza. Spring in your bag at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo.
According to the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism -Inguat-, the Flowers Festival attracts around 500 thousand visitors every year during the event’s weekend, turning the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala into the most visited city in the country.
In 2022, 20,000 Salvadorans crossed the border during the weekend of the festival, of which 16,800 were visiting the country specifically for the event.
